Show and tell and weather board
Children will have circle time where we look at the weather board and sing nursery rhymes. We will talk about any work that the children have done during the day and look at any show and tell items from home. If anyone has a birthday we will use this time to sing to them and wish them a happy birthday.
Afternoon sessions will run to a similar routine however activities will be varied to ensure that children who are with us all day have different experiences.
Free flow activities
During the session children will be able to choose from resources and activities to play with. Our room is defined into areas, although these areas are linked, and children can move toys to different areas if they want to.
There is a role play area which has a kitchen, play food, fancy dress, dolls and additional props depending on current themes and planning.
As an extension to the role play area we have a selection of small world toy’s including train tracks, little people, Barbie dolls and superhero figures.
The construction area has a variety of blocks and building equipment that children can use to make structures and create models.
The investigation area allows children to look and explore different materials, access information and reference books and play educational games on the iPad.
We have tables around the room, two of these tables have activities that encourage mark making and literacy. The other two have resources that encourage problem solving and the use of numbers and shapes.
A quiet area is provided where children have access to a wide range of books which are rotated each term. This is also a good place for children to sleep if they are tired, soft beds and bedding is provided.
In the messy area children will be able to use play dough, glue, paint and create pictures for display or to take home.
We have outdoor play as often as possible in all weathers, children can enjoy bikes, scooters, sand and water play. In addition to this we are working to create a mud kitchen.
The resources in all areas will be changed to fit in with planning and to maintain children’s interest.
FOCUSED ACTIVITIES
During the session children will be taken to a quiet area in their keyworker groups to do more focused activities that are planned to meet the individual needs of children according to their age and stage of development.
SNACK TIME
We encourage children to bring in a named water bottle, so they can easily help themselves to a drink throughout the day. We will provide snacks for all children this will be fresh fruit with crackers or breadsticks, and a drink of either water or milk.
